Just Say No

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Now is a good time of year to go through your clothes and accessories and only keep what works.  A good time to donate what doesn’t fit you.  But how do you decide?  Because you know you’ll want to wear that red blouse with french cuffs at some point, right?  Maybe not!

Here’s my simple tip:  Less is More.  If any item of clothing doesn’t fit you perfectly, get rid of it.  If any accessory hasn’t seen the light of day for a year or more, donate it.  If the shoes you bought on sale last year are still in their box, just say no to them.

Go ahead, do it.  You’ll feel good about what you keep and even better about what you donate to others.  Presenting Your Best involves only putting things on you that help you walk out the door and feel great!

Client Spotlight: She built a WOW!

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I feel like a proud parent when one of my clients shares a success story.  And this time was even more special because Cheryl Alexander is also a mentor, so I was pleased to help her get to this WOW!

Thank you Roshini for your coaching.  My keynote was my best to date.  Your suggestion of spending time talking with the architects ahead of time and referencing people by name was powerful and effective.  It also really allowed me to focus my presentation…I was high energy.”  — Business Consultant Cheryl Alexander talking about her keynote address at the recent American Institute of Architects Convention in Minneapolis.

Cheryl spoke about leadership presence.  Her feedback had audience members impressed.  “You could hear a pin drop.”  And… “You absolutely captured our attention while at the same time demonstrated the very topic on which you were speaking.”

Congratulations Cheryl on Presenting Your Best.  Kudos and good vibes as you take this and multiply your WOW!s.

No Dairy…Your Voice Will Thank You

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I got through a coffee meeting this morning only drinking herbal tea.  It’s hard for me to pass on my chai tea latte, but I know I need to avoid dairy until later today.

Why?  I have an audition for an on-camera talent job and need to have my full vocal capacities.  I tell my clients to avoid dairy products and sugary foods/drinks on days they have to perform.  Your performance doesn’t have to be for camera or broadcast to focus on your vocal behavior.  And the fact is, dairy and sugary foods and drinks glom up your voice box.

So the next time you know you need to be at your best for a meeting or a networking event, try skipping the Mountain Dew or double espresso with heavy cream for several hours before you’re on.  Let it be your treat for afterward.  Your voice will thank you.  And you’ll likely present your best!

Guest Blog: Let’s Get Technical

Monday, November 9th, 2009

As someone who’s not highly tech-savvy, I need to have the best IT people advise me in order to run my business smoothly.  I’m pleased to introduce IT Consultant and Co-Owner of Phoenix Technology Solutions, Jeff Holds.  His technical know-how will help you behind the scenes, so you can Present Your Best online and beyond.

Windows 7…a newly-released Microsoft OS.  Well, I have been using Windows 7  for more than 3 months internally.  Myself and a couple of our engineers all tried it pre-launch.  The consensus:  We love it!  Microsoft did an excellent job of working out the kinks prior to deployment.  A few of the great features include the 64 bit capability, which boosts performance, quicker boot up speeds, more stable, sleep and resumes quicker, touchscreen capable if you have one.  In years past, with new Microsoft OS launches, we would typically wait until the first service pack was released prior to recommending it to our clients.  Windows 7 has the stability of a seasoned product and could be adopted upon release:  http://bit.ly/W0bz  If you have a free upgrade recent purchase, go to your manufacturer’s Web site for their instructions about how to get your copy.  Enjoy!
